Forget nuts. The best Parisian drinks come with a side serving of view, because it’s rooftop terrace season in Paris again. So if you’re in the City of Light any time soon, make space in your itinerary for one, or all, of the following bars.
Hôtel Raphael Terrace Bar
One of the most spectacular panoramic views of Paris can be found from the rooftop of this fabled five-star hotel (it was Audrey Hepburn’s home away from home) — and you don’t need to be a guest to enjoy it. The pinch-yourself-to-believe-it bar is a particularly perfect go-to for toasting your first or last night in town. Order a flute of rose-tinted champagne to match your vision.
17 Avenue Kléber 75116; open from April to September, from 3pm every day; no reservation is necessary.
Le Perchoir Marais
A breezy pop-up-esque bar perched on top of the BHV department store, Le Perchoir serves up summery cocktails and spicy finger food. Not to mention a magnificent close-up of the Renaissance-style roof of the Hôtel de Ville, and views stretching to the Tour Saint-Jacques, Eiffel Tower and beyond.
Entry through BHV, 33 Rue de la Verrerie 75004; open from Wednesday to Saturday, 8.15pm-1.30am (the earlier the better, to avoid excessive queues); no reservations.
Terrass’’ Hotel Bar
If you find yourself in Montmartre towards sunset, make a beeline for the seventh floor of this gem of a hotel, and relax into this laid-back bar, with its swing chairs and garden setting. It’s an ideal vantage point from which to admire a sparkling Eiffel Tower.
12-14 Rue Joseph de Maistre 75018; from noon to midnight, with cocktails and snacks (such as cheese plates, dips and bruschetta) available from 3.30pm; no reservation required.
